What do we know about Civil War?

Seeing how long-held perceptions of war and peace hold up against empirical evidence. Changing the way we think about and research conflict. Making an impact. These are motivations that have driven the researchers at the Centre for the Study of Civil War. They have had ten years to thoroughly investigate the nature of civil war, and it’s time to find out what they’ve been up to.

The CSCW is one of 13 Centres of Excellence established by the Research Council of Norway in 2003. Over the past decade, its research has been driven by three main questions: Why do civil wars break out? How are they sustained? And what does it take to build a durable civil peace? This seminar will present research highlights and key findings from both the working groups and the Centre as a whole.
